Alžběta Krajčíková, Program Manager of Signal Festival
“I have a lot of favourites in the programme, but as I have a strong relationship with cultural and natural heritage and am interested in how we treat it, I am personally looking forward to the installation by Bill Fontana, who is one of the founders of sound art. He will present an audiovisual duet consisting of video sequences and sounds from the bells of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and the Dachstein glacial formation. In addition, the entire installation will be presented in a contemplative oasis in the middle of the Old Town – the Baroque refectory of a 17th century Dominican monastery. I think it will be a very interesting and intimate experience that will be appreciated by those looking for a quieter artistic experience at a busy festival.”
Ondřej Kašpárek, Director of PrusaLab
“For me, the gallery zone is an escape from the festival hustle and bustle to the opportunity to feel the works in a contemplative and meditative atmosphere. Actually, what I enjoy about the festival are the positions of experience that this zone offers for me as a visitor. Even though my passion is more in technology, I’m really looking forward to seeing Jirka Příhoda’s installation. His works are very accessible to the public – I am fascinated by the way in which, with ease and simplicity, he offers to experience and feel exactly that “something between heaven and earth”… that which art literally transcends us.”
Vladimír Zikmund, Creative Director of Zaraguza
“I am most looking forward to the British studio UVA and their kinetic pendulum installation at Kunsthalle Prague. Coincidentally, I’ve heard that the Kunsthalle also serves welcome drinks for those with VIP tickets :)”
Jitka Pánková, Marketing Manager Signal Forum
“I am most looking forward to the Italian artist David Quayola, who is exhibiting in the gallery zone at CAMP this year. This year’s novelty of the festival – Signal Forum, a conference where the most interesting creative minds of Europe meet, will also take place there. The exhibition is timed to follow it and Quayola is one of the conference speakers. I hope to meet him in the networking activities.”
Jan Brož, Graphic Designer and Art Director
“I’m looking forward to United Visual Artists at Kunsthalle Praha, as I grew up with Massive Attack music.”
Jakub Zeman, Executive Director of Signal Festival
For audiences interested in the roots of the festival, technology, art and science, I would advise not to miss the new Signal Forum conference.
We’ve been working to make it happen for several years, and it will take place for the first time this year during Signal Festival on Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12.
We have brought great speakers from all over the world and look forward to seeing everyone who joins this adventure.
On this year’s Signal Festival itineraries, I would recommend starting at point number 1 and that is the Prague Castle Riding Hall. Korean artist Seohyo has taken inspiration from the architectural elements of Prague in her work and reinterpreted them through digital coding into a captivating projection. Installations at Prague Castle will not be repeated in future editions, don’t miss it. A little further along the route you will find a beautiful place called Sternberg Palace. It is a building whose location is hidden even to many Prague residents, yet it is an important gem of High Baroque architecture. Jiří Příhoda has prepared for you three art installations located not only in the palace, but also in the amazing gardens hidden above the Deer Ditch. If you are a fan of sound, go to the Baroque Refectory of the Dominican Monastery in Prague. There you’ll hear a sound installation by modern sound art pioneer Bill Fontana. Fans of performance art should not miss the installation by the Laterna magika ensemble, which for the third year will offer festival-goers a unique spectacle. If you can, head to the festival after 9pm. To make sure you don’t get lost at the festival, download the festival app with a map and the full programme.
Barbora Luczy, Signal Festival Production Manager
“The work of the artist Seohyo, which will be on display in the Riding Hall of Prague Castle, works with all possible patterns and mosaics of the pavement of the sites of Prague Castle and its surroundings. As part of my preparations, I had the task of taking a good look around the castle and photographing all the patterns I would see. I’m so happy about it so far, because thanks to the artist I could look at such a “famous” place with new eyes and in the end I saw patterns in everything. I look forward to seeing the final version of the installation and all the familiar and unfamiliar mosaics.”
Ondřej Klügl, Partnership manager Signal Festival
“Personally, I am looking forward to Seoy’s installation – Coded Tapestry. A generous installation placed in an extremely interesting environment, very unusual for this format – the historic Riding Hall of Prague Castle. The work is a crossover of new technologies, based on the historical context of Prague, its urbanism and architecture. The defined prompts create a new reality based on reality. Images and moments emerge that stand even as solitary pieces, which are then transformed into new and new scenes. The musical component is not just an accompaniment but a completely essential part of the installation.”
Rudolf Matějček, Creative Director of bicepsdigital
“I hope that as few people as possible will go to see Jiří Příhoda at Sternberg Palace this year. He always creates unique experiences in places where people have been 100 times and thanks to his work they can perceive them differently, through his eyes. I want to spend time in his spaces, ideally alone, in peace, with only a minimum of people. Well, we’ll see, it’s probably hard to do that at Signal. :)”
Karolína Kostková, Marketing Manager of Signal Festival
“This year I have several favourites in the Gallery Zone. Jiří Příhoda’s object installations dominate my list and I am looking forward to his work with the surrounding space of the Sterberg Palace. My annual heartthrob is the performances by Laterna Magika. This unique performance directed by Miřenka Čechová puts us in the role of voyeurs on the perón in the courtyard of the Clam-Gallas Palace. Passing trains and fleeting and framed insights into situations create a sense of chance, suspense, voyeurism and fatality. Thirdly, I am looking forward to the exhibition at Kunsthalle Prague by London-based studio UVA, which will explore the boundaries between order and chaos, actually quite a topical subject for many of us.”
