As you know, one of our main goals is to bring visitors of the Signal Festival closer to domestic and foreign audiovisual art and its creators. In addition, we are also involved in the presentation of AV work abroad. Already at the beginning of this year we had the privilege to co-create the program of one of the most important festivals of light Lux Helsinki, which this year took place from 4 to 8 January. Our director Martin Pošta was elected to the curatorial board, which was for the first time this year in the international composition. Who did Martin introduce to the Helsinki audience?
Visitors to the last two editions of the Signal Festival will certainly know two of these names. The Czech AV scene was represented at Lux Helsinki by our favorite local studio 3dsense. The hypnotic installation of EREBUS on Signal 2018 in Karlín Bar/ák was created by them. In Helsinki they presented the installation The Color Out of Space with a hint of science fiction and horror, inspired by the work of the famous writer H.P. Lovecraft. See what their conception of post-apocalyptic landscape looked like.
The Turkish studio Nohlab, whose stunning video mapping of Space&Possibilities on Karlin Square was one of last year’s highlights, created a Streamline projection on the dynamics of flow in the Helsinki city hall. Reflecting the viewer’s relationship with the environment, this installation depicted changing and flowing fluids that continue to move even if their direction and shape change.
Janne Ahola is the third artist whose installation Martin has curated. This representative of the Finnish AV scene created the Moments in drift projection for Lux Helsinki, which was projected on a ceramic relief by Rut Bryks in the Helsinki City Hall. This installation, conceived more like a picture or sculpture, is an abstract depiction of the changing seasons.
And this is the look of this year’s Lux Helsinki. Thanks for having us and we are pleased to be able to support the work of audiovisual artists not only in Czech Republic but also abroad. And which artists can you look forward to at the Signal Festival 2020? Find out more soon!
