Signal Festival will focus on Moravian Amazonia as part of the CO-VISION project

8. 1. 2025

We are proud to announce our participation in CO-VISION, an international project that aims to connect contemporary art with current environmental issues. This project is a collaboration between European festivals and involves creative collectives from different countries. More information about the project can be found on our website Signal Festival – International Projects.

For the Czech part of the project we have chosen the exceptional location of the Moravian Amazon, also known as Soutok.

At the confluence of the Morava and the Dyje rivers, a riverscape of floodplain forests and meadows with massive solitary oaks, interwoven with a network of blind arms and pools, prevails. Many endangered species find refuge there – majestic birds of prey, colourful beetles and remarkable fish. Mankind is an integral part of this landscape – he has inhabited it since time immemorial and, thanks to a carefully planned landscape composition, has given it a unique and harmonious appearance. In order for this landscape to remain so valuable and unique, it needs protection and appropriate management. This natural area is one of the most valuable in the whole of Europe thanks to its unique biodiversity and landscape. Our theme is intended to highlight the importance of protecting this precious site, which you can learn more about, for example, on the Save Soutok and Soutok Nature websites.

The first chance to get engaged in the project will be a public lecture and discussion that will take place on the 7th of February 2025 in Mikulčice. At the event, we will present not only the significance of Soutok, but also the plans for artistic activities that lie ahead.

The culmination of our part of the project will be a large-scale artwork inspired by the Confluence. It will be created by an international team of artists and will be premiered during Signal Festival 2025. After the festival, the work will go on tour to other European festivals.

The CO-VISION project allows us to connect art, community and nature – and we look forward to having you with us!
